Sounds through the window

The sounds through the window of my room.
The sound of the Fire and Rescue truck, sirens blaring over the volume on the television, roar past the building.
Children playing at the park across the street.  Three, no four of them.
A gaggle of geese fly over head.  Chatting as they head towards the pond at the park near the golf course.
Cars cruise by.  Different makes, models, sizes.
Couci Frogs serenade mates for the chance of a quicky in the coconut tree.
Rain drops tap out a tune on the metal roof.
A gecko barks to signify its kill of a nice juicy bug for its meal.
Singing drifting down the street from a karaoke bar a few block away.
Not just sounds through the window.
Life through the window.

Friends

A relaxing day.  Releasing the stress from the workweek.  Listening to the rain making it's own music on the metal roof while I listen to music of a different kind on the internet.

Just finished chatting with a friend from my past.  Good memories.  Friends help keep you grounded.  They remind us of who we are and why we are.  It's not the quantity of the friends, but the quality that matters.  Some people just don't get that.  They don't even have to be physically close to you to have a great impact your life.  As long as you can communicate with each other, you can influence each other's life.  Feeling.  Outlook.  Focus.  Reflection.

A Dry Spell

This image was taken January 2011. It is the true summit of Mauna Kea, the highest point in the Pacific Ocean, on the Big Island of Hawaii. It stands majestically above the ocean at over 13,700 ft. above sea level. From it's actual base, at the bottom of the ocean, it stands at over 33,000 ft.

As an artist; I have found myself in a dry and dark place.  A place that I actually don't want to be in. It's like having writer's block.  I look at other artist's works, many of whom are friends of mine, and I suddenly feel inadequate. I used to feel an almost mystical connection with my camera. We were as one.  Energy flowing between the two of us. Like the connection between a massage therapist and their client. Chi. Mana.

I will continue to find my way back to my place behind the camera.  For the time being, I still have the power of the written word and the power of free thought.  My best friend is quite the advocate for the power of words and the thoughts and feelings that they can evoke.  Dude, you rock!  Mahalo brah.

Random Thoughts

I heard church bells for the first time since I moved in.  Strange.  Neighbor girl, down stairs, chatting on her cell phone.  Not so strange.  Grey and gloomy this morning.  A little on the coolish side.  Still I don't want to put any clothes on.  One of the joys of living alone.  A pause from the keyboard.  Warm the hands holding a cup of coffee.  Starbucks instant.  Go figure.

My photography is in hurting status right now.  Dry spell.  No creativity.  No drive.  Maybe it's a sign to write more.  Plenty of thoughts running around in my head, but no sense of organization.  I feel the need to spend a day or two trying to organize my photos on my new computer, but I also feel the need to get out and do something.  Create something.  Because of this, I do neither.  Depression.  Guilt.  Self-pitty.

There is my answer.  Eat breakfast, shower and grab my camera.  Go out and use this dark time to create.  Use it instead of just letting it sit and consume my life.  We shall see what comes of it.

Things change...go with it.  Aloha.
